2006 AON Build America Award for Excellence in Construction

Soltek Pacific's Tecate Border Station Expansion and Renovation project has been selected as a winner of a 2006 Aon Build America Award, in the Federal and Heavy Construction category.

The $11.3 million Tecate Border Port of Entry project included a 19,262-sf expansion and historic preservation of the existing 1933 historical structure, located at the U.S. Port of Entry at Tecate, California. This unusual project combined modern construction elements required for a state-of-the-art inspection facility, with historic building elements. During construction extensive coordination was required between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Border Patrol, and General Services Administration (GSA), including interface with the country of Mexico and related governmental agencies.

Showcasing the industry's top projects, the Aon Build America Awards, presented in partnership with the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), are the highest honor bestowed on construction projects. Judging criteria includes: state-of-the-art advancements; excellence in project management; innovation in construction techniques or materials; excellence in client service; contributions to the community; ability to meet project challenges; and sensitivity to the environment. Each contractor selected to receive an Aon Build America award epitomizes excellence within the construction industry. Soltek Pacific previously received a Build America award for the House of Hospitality Historic Reconstruction and Renovation project in Balboa Park. AGC president Sam Hunter will present the Aon Build America Awards at AGC's Annual Convention in Palm Springs on March 21, 2006.

The Soltek Tecate Border Station Project Management Team included: Larry Richie, Managing Corporate Officer; Terry Walborn, Project Manager; Joe Whipple, Superintendent; Saul Acosta, Foreman; and Ana Aispuro, Administrative Assistant. The Architect on this project was Fields and Devereaux, Architects & Engineers.
