U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold Certificate
The UCI Campus Site/Surge was a design-build project which consisted of a new 60,000 square foot 4- story campus surge building and a new 58,000 square foot 7-story 2000 vehicle parking structure on a ten acre construction site. The campus surge building was temporarily used as housing for displaced students and now serves as an instructional and research building. The parking structure which sits adjacent to the campus surge building provides student parking and access to the university via student busing and walkways to the surrounding campus. The nationally recognized Gold LEED certification distinguishes Soltek’s UCI Campus Site/Surge project as meeting the highest green building and performance measures and symbolizes that the project was environmentally responsible. Several of the LEED features include: high performance glazing windows which lower the heat absorption of the building and in turn lowers energy costs for cooling the building; installation of low voltage lighting which reduces excess light and energy used and thus creates low exterior light pollution; low volatile organic compound (VOC) materials that decrease the amount of toxins emitted into the environment, (for example low VOC adhesives and paints were utilized) and water efficient landscaping.
This project was led by Larry Bouchard and Jose Garcia. Soltek’s field operations personnel performed all site concrete, wall backfill, precast concrete installation, rough carpentry, door and hardware installation, firestopping, caulking and waterproofing. Congratulations to the all the team members that contributed to the success of this project.
