Links
When completed in 2009, the RIMAC building will become another UCSD statement of unique building construction.
The project involves construction of a multipurpose facility adjacent to the present RIMAC building with associated site work, landscaping and new bleachers complete with a wheelchair lift. Approximately 14,000-gsf in size, the building will include lounges, conference rooms, coffee bar and café, and outdoor seating. The work also includes sports improvements, associated structures and site work, a new NCAA compliant softball field, repositioning of the existing backstop, new dugouts, and associated services. The new edition of the RIMAC Annex will include a 3-story building overlooking a new softball field. Each floor is larger and has a different shape than the respective floors below. The building exterior combines such exotic finishes such as special IPE hard wood called Lattice, metal wall panels, aluminum store fronts, plaster, aluminum curtain walls, cabled rail hand rails and enhanced colored concrete. Soltek’s Concrete Division personnel, Gary and Cory Arnold, have begun calculations on 100 plus concrete footing elevations and sizes that meander up the dirt slope. These footings will accommodate the building’s many stepped and poured-in-place walls and shotcrete walls that will support the structure. The footings will also support new concrete bleacher seating for the softball field. Soltek’s Field Operations Manager (Carpentry Division), Mike Jovin, will be put to the test on determining the sizes and placement for the thousands of stainless steel rods and stainless steel hardware pieces that will be needed so the Soltek framing division can install them in their respective spot . Aside from the individuals mentioned above, the project team includes: Ben Bump, Project Manager; Jeff Sullivan, Superintendent; Johno Ortego, Project Engineer; and Roxanne Gill, Administrative Assistant.
