Grand Opening 33 Area Fitness Center
The grand opening was well received from the Command, Base CO and the Marines in the area. Camp Margarita, 33 Area, currently serves as the headquarters, work and billeting location for over 2,500 Marines and Sailors assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division and 1 Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division.
Soltek was awarded this project on April 9, 2008 with a contract value of $6,691,825. The 25,941-sf facility offers the latest and greatest in fitness, strength and functional training equipment, including a functional training room where patrons can train for fighting. This new Fitness center is home to Camp Pendleton’s boxing and submission wrestling team. The weight room and cardio area features state-of-the-art equipment by Nautilus, Life Fitness, Hammer Strength, Star Trac, Woodway, Techno Gym, Precor, Free Motion, Atlantis, True and Bigger, Faster, Stronger. Group fitness classes include Survival Cycle, Yoga for Combat Athletes, and Combat Circuit. The center also has a gymnasium and racquetball courts, new to this area, which will now allow for free play as well as allow intramural sports to be conducted by the Athletic Department.
Sustainable design features include a 5,000-watt roof-mounted photovoltaic panel system for solar power and a 500-gallon gray water irrigation system that filters the water from the sinks, showers, and washing machines which then is used to water the landscape on site. These sustainable design features makes this facility one of the most energy efficient buildings on the base.
Congratulations to the Soltek Team: John Myers, MCO; Bob Thompson, Senior PM; Joanie Taylor, PM; Jim Vieira, Superintendent; Greg Tague, CQC; Pat Wiedenfeld, Safety; and Angie Peckman, Administrative Assistant.
