The Cosmopolitan Hotel Reopens
The Cosmopolitan Hotel is recognized as one of the most historically significant buildings in California and Sotlek Pacific had a significant role in making this multi-million-dollar restoration possible. The Cosmo restoration includes an indoor and outdoor restaurant, boutique style hotel with 10 rooms, and meeting rooms for special occasions.
The building was originally constructed between 1827 and 1829 by San Diego pioneer Juan Bandini as his home. Then in 1869 the single-story adobe style home was converted into the Cosmopolitan Hotel and a second level was added by Albert Seeley.
This reconstruction effort revealed many of the intricate American details that were added to the home when it was turned into a hotel in 1869 with ninety-eight percent of the material being original. This includes all the doors and wood siding and some surprising finds that were revealed when the rooms were renovated. Antique furniture pieces throughout each room and all wallpaper is correct to the 1850's and 1860's.
