PROGRESS UPDATE SEALs Desert Training Facility Project Is Finally Making Headway After 1-Year Halt Due to UXO

Soltek’s team working out at Camp Billy Machen in Niland, CA on job 1074 P-771 Special Operations Forces Desert Training Facility, is charging full steam ahead after a nearly oneyear halt on the project due to the discovery UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) on the project site. The project calls for the construction of a 55,001 sq. ft. Desert Warfare Training Center facility to support the Naval Special Warfare Command. The project also includes four 1,000 sq. ft. explosive storage magazines. These facilities will support a variety of functions including operational gear storage, applied instruction, administrative, and berthing.

The project’s structural steel is being erected and the masonry is about 70% complete. On top of the Coronavirus pandemic and the new sanitation and mask protocols required on the job site, this project is located in a remote desert where the summer will likely bring about an unending break from the heat along with the conditions and creatures typical for this environment: dust, wind, rattlesnakes, scorpions, and giant flies. The subcontractors are doing a great job with their trade scope and the project team is working exceptionally hard. The project is expected to be complete in April of 2021.
