This project was a historic rehabilitation project completed for the Department of the Navy in 1997 and consisted of a historic remodel of a 10,971-square-foot transmitter building. Portions of the existing transmitter building were demolished, including a detached electronics workshop and all lead-based paint was removed to reveal the original historic red brick structure. The building was seismically retrofitted to meet current codes and was upgraded to meet accessibility, fire, and life safety standards. The work also included the historic preservation of existing doors and windows. As remodeled, the structure was adaptively reused as a two-story community center and housing office. The new facility contains areas for an exercise/gymnastics area, multi-purpose room, kitchen, game room, recreation office and checkout desk, men’s and women’s lockers and toilets, and meeting rooms and offices for the housing administration staff.
